Published on the occasion of the 2000 exhibition Elysian Fields at the Centre Pompidou, curated by Elein Fleiss and Olivier Zahm of Purple magazine. Bringing together some fifty artists across generations and disciplines, the exhibition explored contemporary sensibility as a field of atmosphere—where sound, image, and space intertwined.
The catalog is structured around the four phases of sleep—Theta Twilight, Light Sleep, Delta Deep, and Fragmented REM—each section printed in color to mirror its stage in the cycle. Contributors include Gerhard Richter, Doug Aitken, Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster, Pierre Huyghe, and others. The accompanying Elysian CD extends the exhibition’s sonic dimension, featuring tracks by Sonic Youth, Jim O’Rourke, Tortoise, and more.
